We bought a bag of Namaste Foods No Sugar Added Muffin Mix to try it out because I was in the mood for muffins. The mix was easy to make just add eggs, oil, and water. Then you bake it at 400° for 12-15 minutes. When mixing it I didn’t like the smell, it smelled stale. The mix was thick like cookie dough instead of the consistency of batter. It didn’t rise like other muffin mixes I’ve tried. I ate one of the muffins and it tasted powdery and stale. I checked the date on the package and it didn’t expire until well into next year. I don’t have much to say about these muffins, except that I don’t recommend them.
I have since found out that this is the sugar free version and that there is a regular version too. If I can find the regular muffin mix, I will try it out.
When my mom came home after a shopping trip I was putting the groceries away and I saw a light blue box that said gluten free. I picked it up and saw it was a box of gluten free crackers that where white cheddar flavored. Nabisco, makers of Wheat Thins, has new gluten free cracker called Rice Thins. They have three different flavors; Sea Salt & Pepper, White Cheddar, and Original. I thought that they would taste funny, like most gluten free crackers do, they didn’t taste funny at all, they where actually very good. They where crunchy like a regular cracker, and had white cheddar powder that might get your fingers messy. I haven’t tried the Sea Salt & Pepper or the Original. I haven’t even seen them in stores. It’s nice to see regular companies coming out with more gluten free items.
When Bisquick came out with Gluten free Bisquick I wasn’t sure it was going to taste good or even cook right. When I got a box and tried it I was completely surprised that it tasted so good. When I make pancakes with the Bisquick they are fluffy and golden brown like real pancakes. It comes in a 1lb box, and can also be used as an all purpose baking mix.
I used to go to every store to find the perfect gluten free muffin, and I found it! Udi’s blueberry muffins are the best muffins I have ever tasted. This muffin is topped with crystal sugar, and is moist and tasty and has a nice texture. They come in a package of 4 really big muffins. Udi’s also makes Double Chocolate Muffins, Double Vanilla Muffins and Lemon Streusel Muffins. I’ve never had the vanilla or lemon ones, I’ve never even seen them in stores here. The double chocolate ones are good but the blueberry ones are my favorite.

Kinnikinnick KinniToos Chocolate Sandwich Crème Cookies are my favorite cookies. These cookies are the most delicious cookies I have ever tasted. They are a chocolate cookie with a cream middle. These cookies are very much like Oreos. They are perfect for dipping in milk. KinniToos also come in fudge and vanilla flavors. I’ve never had the fudge ones but I’ve had the vanilla ones, and they taste good too.

Usually gluten free pasta noodles are mushy and don’t taste very good, but Tinkyada brown rice pasta tastes almost like normal pasta! This pasta is so good that I go through at least four 16oz packages a month. Most pastas I’ve seen come in 12oz packages and cost more. Tinkyada pastas come in various shapes; spaghetti style, little shells, spirals, elbow, penne, fusili, vegetable spirals, fettuccini, spinach spaghetti, white rice spaghetti, lasagna, grand shells, and fun shaped noodles called little dreams.
Tinkyada pastas are gluten free, soy free, egg free, dairy free, and COR certified Kosher. Some styles are even available certified organic.
Yesterday we made ice cream. It is Shavuot and it is traditional to eat dairy. I LOVE homemade ice cream! We made two flavors, mint chocolate chip, and vanilla. Both flavors used 1 cup of milk, 2 cups of heavy cream, and 3/4c of sugar, To make it look minty we added two drops of green food coloring. (Optional) In the vanilla we added one teaspoon of my mother’s homemade vanilla extract. They made a very delicious dessert.
Now on to my breakfast this morning! This morning I had a glutino gluten free strawberry toaster pastry. It is soft and flaky with a delicious strawberry jam middle. They also come in a yummy apple cinnamon flavor, but I like the strawberry flavor best. The toaster pastries are scroll K kosher parve hectured.
We discovered this bread a few months ago. It is now my favorite bread. It smells like normal bread. It has a soft texture. When toasted the crust gets very crunchy. The slices and loaf are almost as big as normal bread. I can make grilled cheese sandwiches without it falling apart or getting hard. This bread also comes in Soft Multigrain bread. It costs less than other gluten free breads at $5 for a 1lb loaf. We found it in the frozen foods section of the store.
