Here are some of my thoughts, feelings, and troubles I have experienced through celiac disease.
June 30th 2005~ Today I got my blood drawn but they didn't really draw blood. What the nurse did is she put the needle in my arm but she missed the vain so she kept poking around my arm fot the vain. My mom finnaly told her to stop! It was a scary day!
This I wrote when I was in third grade and was being tested for celiac.
July 12th 2005~ Today I got my blood drawn twice. I got it done twice because the doctor was trying to find out if I had celiac disease. In the morning my mom and friend went to the hospital with me. The first time the only thing I could have all morning was water. We went into the room and I sat in my mom's lap and they took 3 vials of blood. After that we went and looked around the hospital for an hour then I drank some sugar water and they drew 1 vial of blood. After that we went home.
August 3rd 2005~ Today I had a Biopsi. At the Biopsi they first took me into a room where my parents could help me change into hospital clothes. Then we went into a big scary room with a bunch of nurses and doctors. They then gave me root beer flavored laffy gas that made me feel silly. After this they put in I.V. into my hand that put me to sleep. When I was sleeping they put a small tube down my throat and to my intestine where they took 6 finger like things to tell if i had celiac disease. I woke up and went home still feeling a little silly from the laffy gas.
August 10th 2005~ Today was terrible. I broke my arm by falling of a wooden ladder at my friends house then found out that I had celiac disease. I am scared about having celiac and the only thing I have been eating is smoothies!
October 24 2007~ It was the last day of volleyball practice. I was having a fabulous day so far and was doing wonderful at my practice. Our coach stopped us 15 minutes early from teh end of practice and brought out delicious looking cookies and root beer. She decided we should have a party for doing so well this year. So they all ate cookies and drank root beer while I waited until practice was over. When it was I went to my mom at home and cried about the "party" at practice. I felt upset that she had to ruin such a great year by bringing out cookies. I learned though that sometimes you just have to deal with it because it will come at you a lot.
December 9th 2007~ Today I went to the Seahawks game. My dad and I jsut brought food with us and it was incredibly easy to eat at the game. Kid Valley Garlic Fries are gluten free but, they had a different type than kid valley. This shows that you can still have a good time even if you cannot have the garlic fries.
December 13th 2007~ My best friend Holly's birthday is today. At our school we celebrate birhdays by bringing in treats. My friend really wanted me to be able to have the treat. She talked to my mom and made Peppermint Patties. They were incredibly good and it felt great to have what everyone else was having.
January 4th 2008~ A boy in my class was having a birthday celebration at school and bringing in cupcakes. I sort of felt bad seeing everybody eat the cupcakes but luckily got to have gummy worms from my snack bag at school instead. I also felt better because another boy in my class named Ben has a nut allergy so he ate something special too.
Maggiano's: Friend or Foe
It all started after I had my yearly check-up with my doctor to make sure I was still eating Gluten Free. Everthing was going well and I didn't have to get a blood draw (which I dread) so my mom and I went out to celebrate.
We went to Maggiano's my used to be favorite restaurant. I had my usual, fettucini alfredo with gluten free pasta and a caesar salad as an apetizer.
When my supposedely gluten-free pasta came out I as usual started scarfing it down. But then I found a noodle that didn't really look like the other and noticed that it was a wheat noodle.
The waiter got us a completely gluten free one but we found out that the IDIOTIC chef cooked my pasta in water that wheat pasta was cooked in first. He thought that I just ordered it because I liked the taste. Not because I had an allergy.
So let this be a lesson to you to never eat at Maggiano's without being in the kitchen while they make your pasta, and to never trust restaurants that don't know what they are talking about, just like stinky Maggiano's!!!!!!! Can you tell I'm mad and sick!!!!!
